I had an opportunity to see “Snakes on a Plane” over the weekend, and it was fantastic!!! So, what’s this movie all about? The film title pretty much sums it up-you’ve got some snakes, they’re released on a plane in mid-flight in an effort to assassinate a specific passenger, and chaos ensues. Samuel L. Jackson is superb in his role as a tough but kind-hearted federal agent sent to protect a witness on a flight from Hawaii to L.A., who’s slated to testify against a well-known crime boss for a high profile murder case. Although from the title and the basic plot premise, you might assume this to be just another poorly scripted, over-acted B movie, it’s actually very well written, with a tongue-in-cheek campiness that provokes chuckles throughout. The action is excellent, especially if you’re a bit squeamish about snakes. I was a bit concerned about the CGI effects prior to seeing this movie-in my opinion, when CGI is not well done, it can distract from the film, making a really excellent movie not that enjoyable to watch. In “Snakes,” while it is obvious that both real and CGI snakes were used, most of the CGI effects were integrated in such a way that it does not pull your eye away from the action.
While “Snakes” would be an awesome rental, I would definitely recommend seeing it in the theatre too while it’s out-it’s just one of those movies that’s more fun to see with an audience!
And now, just because I think it’s funny…”Snakes on a Plane-early auditions”….
